A slightly cut-down version of our Pittsburgh-Weirton-Pittsburgh 200K, this populaire is notable due to its elevation profile:
(After mile 60, you’ve got almost no climbing whatsoever…)
Starting at the Swinburne St trailhead of the Eliza Furnace Trail, we’ll make our way through town to the West End, followed by a long climb and descent into Carnegie, then an undulating ridge ride to the first controle at the Exxon in Robinson. The Old Steubenville Pike will take us to the tiny village of Florence, where our second controle awaits at the Grab-n-Go convenience store.
From Florence, we’ll enjoy a long fast descent on 18 through Burgettstown, before hopping onto parallel country roads to minimize traffic. We’ll rejoin secondary roads in Houston, PA for a few miles, as we follow PA Bike Route S through Mingo Creek State Park to our third controle at the Sheetz in Monongahela. Finally, we’ll cross the river and follow it downstream all the way to McKeesport, where we hop on the newly completed Steel Valley Trail segment of the Great Allegheny Passage all the way back to the start.
