Reviving one of our challenge routes, the Allegheny Mountains Challenge 300 (formerly known as the AMCUP300, or Allegheny Mountains Cruel & Unusual Punishment), is likely one of the toughest 300K brevets in North America.
Starting in Washington, PA, you’ll head east to the banks of the Monongahela River, then up the ridge through Perryopolis and Vanderbilt on the way to Dunbar and a climb up Chestnut Ridge on the way to Ohiopyle. From there, a brief respite on the trail to Confluence, then up and over Mt Davis (the highest point in Pennsylvania) en route to the turnaround point in Meyersdale. There, you’ll get another trail break, before returning to unrelentingly hilly road riding at Rockwood. You’ll ride through the Laurel Highlands on the way to Connellsville, then pick up 201 on the way back to the Mon River and retracing your path to the start.
Be warned…this is a hard ride. Aside from a few long ridge climbs of over 1000′ elevation, there are numerous shorter, steeper climbs throughout the route.
Start: The Hampton Inn in Washington, PA. 04:45AM rider meeting, ride starts at 05:00AM.
